West Harling

Sunday 25 September 2016. Although the title of the walk is West Harling, the starting point was just a little way out of the village near the junction of Bridgham Lane (track) and West Harling Road. This caused a little confusion but the five of us who walked today (Linda W, Helen, Moira, Lisa and me) eventually found each other.

The rain that had been forecast came very early this morning leaving an increasingly sunny day for our walk. We set off towards The Dower House caravan site and encountered a short section of path partly overgrown with nettles. A short diversion through the woods avoided the worst of this and we stopped for coffee/brunch on the benches in Bridgham Churchyard. I hadn’t stopped here on my recce and added this to the walk to provide some shelter in the event of rain – not needed.

We stopped for tea/coffee at the cafe attached to the holiday site at Thorpe Woodlands. A short section of the Peddars Way was walked before we crossed the road to walk through West Harling Heath on the way back to the cars. The walk was 6.8 miles.
