Wednesday 7 September 2016. I had planned to do another coastal walk today but, having seen Carol Kirkwood do her weather report from nearby Portland Bill, it was clear that this would be blighted by foggy conditions which might take some time to clear. Instead, I switched to a more inland route starting at Bloxworth and taking in Bloxworth Heath and part of Wareham Forest.
It wasn’t the most interesting walk as much of it was on forest tracks similar to those found in and around Thetford Forest. I walked for 2 hours to Woolsbarrow Hillfort before stopping for something to eat. This is the site of an iron age settlement and the summit of a flat-topped hill provided good views of the surrounding countryside. The walk was 7.6 miles with only 600ft of ascent.
