Thursday 14 July 2016. There had been overnight snow on the mountain tops but we didn’t go that high for today’s fairly gentle walk; only 7.6 miles with 1,000ft of ascent and 2,200ft of descent. We caught the bus down to Ortisei and then took the funicular railway 2,500ft up the mountain from where we started our walk. The path rose steadily until we reached the cross at Rasciesa du Fuori. We stopped here for a while chatting to a group of Brits who, it turned out, were members of “Take a Hike” the Leeds and Bradford younger Ramblers Group. One of them was from Harrogate – what a coincidence!
Our lunch stop was 3 hours into the walk and just before the major descent of the day down to the middle level station on the Secada ski lift. As we had plenty of time we took a ride up to the top of the mountain in a rather scary gondola lift. After coffee at the top we made our way, via two ski lifts, down to Ortisei for the bus ride back to Selva.
