Tuesday 12 July 2016. The weather forecast for today wasn’t great with thunderstorms predicted from 1pm. I decided to drop down to do the easier walk which took us up and back along the Vallunga before a ride up the Dantercepies ski lift. We hadn’t been out very long before showers began and these developed by mid-morning to heavy rain with thunder and lightning. Fortunately we were near a hut where we took shelter and had an early lunch. The walk back down Vallunga was undertaken in rain although this had eased considerably by the time that we reached another hut/cafe where we stopped for refreshments.
It was now about 1pm. Too early to go back to the hotel and with the sun now shining, our leader suggested a ride up the Dantercepies ski lift with a 2,100ft descent on the walk back down. Our holiday includes a free bus pass and a ski lift pass so there are no restrictions on travel either by road or up and down the mountains. My thighs were burning by the time that we got down to the bottom of the ski lift from where we made our way back to the hotel.
The walk was about 8.5 miles with around 1,500ft of ascent and 3,600ft of descent.
