Tuesday 9 December 2014. Today was the fifth and longest leg of the NCP at 10.4 miles. We stopped of at the café in Burnham Deepdale, to use the toilets and grab a coffee, before making a start from Burnham Overy Staithe. 4 miles later and we were back in the same café for our official coffee stop and to seek refuge from an ever freshening and chill wind. This time we had a pot of tea for 3. I’d paid for the early morning coffee so it was Karen’s turn this time. I’d had a small mince pie with my tea and on leaving the café I asked Karen how much it had cost? It turns out that it was £1.95. They were taking the p**s and we won’t be calling in there again in a hurry.
We stopped again after another mile or so at Brancaster Staithe for an early lunch. Karen then led us on a brisk walk along the boardwalk to Brancaster before we turned inland to work our way around Titchwell and into Thornham. The last section was exposed to the wind and I think we were all glad to make it to the end.
