Slaidburn

Wednesday 10 September 2014. It was another sunny day as we made the short drive to the charming village of Slaidburn for a 6.34 mile walk with a total ascent of 740ft. As is becoming the custom, we had coffee and toast before making a start on the walk which, for the first 3 miles, followed the course of the River Hodder to the next village of Newton.

It had been very gentle so far but we now had a switchback of minor hills to climb as we made our way across fields in the shadow of Beatrix and Burn fells. The last mile or so followed the course of Croasdale Brook back to Slaidburn.

It was such a lovely day that we had our post-walk lunch and a refreshing drink in the garden of the Hark to Bounty pub in Slaidburn and then stopped for ice cream in Waddington on the way home.
