Trough of Bowland

Wednesday 3 September 2014. Today’s walk started from just outside Dunsop Bridge for a 7.6 mile circuit around and over Whin Fell with just under 1,600ft of ascent. The first couple of miles were on a tarmac road up the Dunsop valley to the point where it turned north-west to Brennand Farm. Until now it had been very gentle but this soon changed with a near 800ft climb on Ouster Rake to the top of Whin Fell (1,400ft). There was a short walk across the top of the fell before my route then descended steeply into the Trough of Bowland. I had hoped to use a permissive path alongside the Langden Brook to get back to the car but this was under water and I had to suffer more road walking.
