Whitewell

Tuesday 2 September 2014. It was a lovely sunny morning so I set off on the short drive to Whitewell for my first walk in Bowland. I thought that it would be a little shorter but it turned out to be 9¼ miles with 1,300ft of ascent. As can be seen from the route profile, much of the climbing took place in the first 2½ miles and it was tough going over mainly boggy ground. The descent came as something of a relief although there were a few more “ups” towards the end. I rewarded myself after the walk with a sandwich and a pint of lager shandy at the Inn in Whitwell. The river picture is of the Hodder taken from the pub terrace.
