Thursday 15 August. As forecast, it was raining first thing this morning but this wasn’t a problem as we had planned a 4½ mile walk around the NT’s Cragside estate starting at 1:00pm. I arrived early, just before 10:00, waiting for the gates to open. The house didn’t open until 11:00 so I spent a little over an hour wandering around the grounds and gardens. An early visit to the House meant that I missed the crowds that built up a little later on. I met with Bea & Josephine for our afternoon walk and whilst I tried to follow the directions, these didn’t seem to tie in with the route markers on the map. Consequently, we took a wrong turn our two but still found our way around without too many problems.
The House was one of the better NT properties that I’ve visited and made for an interesting wet weather option.
