Sheffield Pike

Tuesday 7 May. How fickle is the British weather? Yesterday I made an early start but abandoned the walk because of cold & low cloud. It changed completely after lunch as can be seen from the 1st picture.Today dawned sunny & warm so I had another go at Sheffield Pike which was a 6.5 mile walk with 2,250ft of ascent. Starting from the shore of Ullswater I made a steady climb to Glenridding Hostel where it started to get harder, ascending a series of zigzags to the former mining area. From here I had a further 300ft to climb before reaching Sheffield Pike at 2,150ft.
It wasn’t until I reached the summit that the view down Ullswater became visible. A pleasant surprise and a nice reward for my efforts. The descent along Glencoyne was a little rocky in places but on the whole not too bad with fabulous views. One more Wainwright to the collection.
Wednesday 7 May. Raining so no walking but catching up with the internet at Keswick TIC.
