Helen; our regular group photographer, has been ill with pneumonia – we wish her a speedy recovery. In the meantime, I’ll try to fill the gap and post a few pictures from each walk. The first picture of stepping stones across the River Welland was taken yesterday, whereas the remainder were taken on my recce when the skies were a little clearer. On a chill day with a stiff breeze 15 walkers turned out for a 9?? mile walk (8 from Fenland and 7 guests from others groups). There was competition for spaces in the small “Hills & Hollows” car park at Barnack as the Stamford group had chosen the same starting point for their pre-Christmas lunch walk. Latecomers had to park in Barnack village but this wasn’t really a problem.
Just 5 hardy souls turned out, on a near sub-zero morning, for the 6?? mile walk starting from Wicken Fen. I stopped off on the way, near Mepal, to take a few pictures of the flooded washes. Despite the chilly start, we soon warmed up and finished off in the Nature Reserve’s tea shop.
