I made an early morning visit to have a look around Littlehampton before taking myself off onto the South Downs for a 7?? mile walk with 800ft of ascent. It was a cracking morning and as I visited the quayside at Littlehampton, a flotilla of small fishing vessels was setting out for the day. Littlehampton doesn’t really have a harbour and the boats are moored on the River Arun just where it flows out into the sea.
A little later, I made a short drive up onto the South Downs for my main walk. For the last day of summer, it was almost perfect walking weather with bright sunshine and a cooling breeze. This was a walk of huge vistas, rolling hills and a distant sea views. It made quite a change from the hills of the Lake District with enjoyable easy walking.
