It was an odd day weather-wise. Dawn broke with heavy rain and low cloud so we delayed our start until 10:00 and stopped for tea/coffee & cake/biscuits at Ennerdale Bridge on the way. By 11:00 it was starting to improve but there was still low cloud on the fells so our planned 3 Wainwright walk was abandoned in favour of a circuit of Ennerdale Water. The overnight downpour had left the lakeside path flooded and we had to turn back about a quarter of the way along the north shore. We had been told that the south shore path was also impassable at Red Beck but thought that we would go and have a look for ourselves. At times, it was difficult to distinguish between path & stream, and sure enough Red Beck was in spate but could be crossed with care as shown by Terry. The sun broke through the clouds on our way back to make the 6.5 mile walk with 550ft of ascent all the more enjoyable.
