Wasdale Marathon

I said in my last post that we would be lucky to complete this walk before dark. Well, it took us 8.5 hours to complete a 10.5 mile walk with 4,230ft of ascent. Starting from Wasdale we had a short section of road walking before making the 1,600ft climb of Yewbarrow. There were significant sections of rock climbing both on the ascent and descent of this very steep hill.

We then came down 400ft before climbing a further 1,000ft to Red Pike. This was followed by much more up & down before summiting Pillar at 2,880ft. A long walk down followed and was rewarded by a pint in the very busy Wasdale Head Inn.
