Thursday was rainy with a brief dry interlude in the early afternoon, so Karen and I decided on a wet weather option to visit the Llechwedd Slate Caverns near Blaenau Ffestiniog. There was a self-guided tour on foot and a train ride into the caverns with a guide to provide background info. This filled the morning and proved to be more interesting than anticipated. We enjoyed a superb lunch at Ty Gwyn near Betwys-y-Coed before driving to have a look at the Menai Straits suspension bridge. We had looked down on this link with Anglesey from many of the mountains visited in the last few days, so thought that we ought to pay a visit.
