Monday was a lovely sunny day for Karen’s first day walking with me in Snowdonia. We decided on what we thought might be a relatively easy introductory walk of 6 miles with 2,250ft of ascent.
Starting from just outside the village of Deiniolen near Llanberis we had a mile or so of road walking before making our first ascent of about 750ft to the summit if Carnedd Y Filiast at 2,700ft. It was a little scrambly and rather than a full frontal assault we made our way around the side to reach the top. From here we had a broad grassy ridge to walk along with magnificent views across most of Snowdonia.
From Mynydd Perfedd we had to cross a narrower ridge and make another scramble to the summit of Elidir Fawr (3,028ft). There was small measure of “exposure” on this section of the route but Karen made it, albeit with a wobble or two. More scrambling across rocks took us to Elidir Fach (2,600ft) before descending down a scree slope and grassy tracks back to the car.
