Lose Hill & Mam Tor

After a rainy weekend watching sport on TV, I was ready to get out walking again. Thankfully, Monday dawned with a clear blue sky but a chilly wind – so much so, that instead of taking of my jacket off on the climbs, I needed to add an extra layer, hat & gloves.

The 8?? mile route with 1730ft of ascent started directly from the caravan site in Castleton and took me along field paths to Hope where the 1,000ft climb of Lose Hill commenced. The views from the top looking back to the Hope Valley on one side and down to Edale on the other side made the climb worthwhile. The ridge walk to Back Tor, Hollins Cross & Mam Tor is something special even though it was blowing a gale and there was another 400ft up to the summit of Mam Tor. From here it was all downhill back to the caravan.
