Today’s walk was a 6?? mile circuit with about 1,000ft of ascent starting from the very pretty village of Ilmington, about 10 miles north of Broadway. After the chill winds earlier this week, we were treated to warm sunshine – so much so that my face was very red by the end of the walk. Will I never learn to put suncream on when the sun shines? The walk started with a steep climb of about 300ft before descending to Foxcote (the Manor in the picture). Lunch was taken at the National Trust property of Hidcote Manor & Gardens. We couldn’t believe how busy it was – the car park was overflowing. Nonetheless, we availed ourselves of their toilet facilities and had our picnic lunch in the area set aside for their caf?? customers. I think it was here that I succumbed to the sunburn. I believe it was the hottest day of the year so far. The last couple of miles back to Ilmington crossed more undulating countryside and the opinion was that this had been the best walk of the week. Spectacular countryside in warm sunshine.
