Stanage Edge

Today’s walk was 10 miles with 1,500ft of ascent starting with a climb up on to Stanage Edge. From here I embarked on a large circular route which took in Redmires reservoir and stretches of Open Access moorland. There was a boring section of road walking but this was compensated for by the climb back on to Stanage Edge once again and the views across to Win Hill, Lose Hill, Ladybower Reservoir and the distant Kinder plateau. The weather first thing was grey cloud with light showers but a delayed start meant that I managed to stay dry although there was a strong wind blowing and for the first time this autumn I wore a light coat throughout the walk. The day got better as it went on and after lunch the cloud broke to spells of sunshine. Unusually for me, I was starting to feel tired by the end of the walk and the rocky ascent/descent to Stanage Edge certainly felt harder coming down than going up.
