Newby Bridge

Despite a less than promising weather forecast, I set off today for an 8 mile walk with 1,000ft of ascent based on Newby Bridge which is at the very southern end of Coniston Water. Much of the walk seemed to be wading through chest high bracken and trying to follow a very feint footpath. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds and just after Bigland Tarn the route joined the Cumbria Coastal Way for a short while. From here there were good views across to Ulverston and out to the vast expanse of Morecambe Bay. Luckily the weather wasn’t too bad and I managed to stay dry.
