Steam train to Whitby

By way of a diversion, I decided today to catch the steam train on the NYM railway from Pickering to Whitby at a cost of ??21 return. I didn???t notice that they charge ??3 for the car park until I got back but didn???t get a parking ticket. The train must be the slowest in the country ??? limited to 25mph and it took 1hr 40mins to get to Whitby which, as usual was crowded with visitors. The swing bridge which gives access to the Abbey was closed for emergency repairs and the only way to cross to the other side was a ??1 ferry each way. I know it isn???t much but by now I had had enough of the crowds and beat a hasty retreat for an early train back to Pickering. It was a bright sunny day and I would have been better off heading for the hills.
