Snowdon – more down than up!

It seems odd that a walk up Snowdon could involve more descent than ascent, but that is the result of the route that I took for my walk today. The weather was absolutely perfect and well worth the wait for the right day. I started from Pen-y-Pass and followed the Miners Track. The first 90 minutes was just a steady climb until Glaslyn was reached and here the going got tough with the last 1,900ft being attained in less than a mile and taking 60 minutes to complete. The totals for this leg of the walk were 4 miles and 2,700ft of ascent. As it was such a nice day, I spent some time at the newly refurbished caf?? on the summit of Snowden which was sadly plagued by the trippers disgorging from the mountain railway. By way of a change, I took the easier Llanberis path for the descent. This was generally well graded and could be described as the tourist route. It took 2?? hours to complete the 5?? mile 3,250ft descent.
